카티아와 모리스 크라프트는 서로와 화산을 사랑했고, 분출하는 화산을 찾아 지구를 누비며 연구 내용을 기록했다. 1991년, 두 화산학자는 자연계에 관한 우리의 이해를 높이는 방대한 자료를 뒤로하고 사망했다. 본 다큐멘터리 영화는 그들이 남긴 기록을 바탕으로 사랑이라는 이유 때문에 미지의 세계를 모험한 두 과학자의 여정을 따라가며 생성과 소멸에 관해 이야기한다.
